Fr Eustace Durugbo’s Induction Mass at St Margaret of Scotland was held on Wednesday 19th July 2022.

Msgr Kevin McGinnell was the Principal Celebrant as Dean of the St Albans Deanery.

Proceedings commenced with the presentation of the Parish Priest Elect with a letter of appointment from Bishop David being read to the Dean and those present. This was followed by the Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity. Parish Staff and a representative of the Parish Finance committee were then presented.

Msgr Kevin then gave a homily on “St Margaret of Scotland” and on the history of the church. He mentioned that he had never been able to discover why a church in Luton was named after St Margaret of Scotland but that she was a very pious Christian and mother of three kings of Scotland. She established a ferry for pilgrims across the Firth of Forth going to St Andrew’s giving the towns of North Queensferry and South Queensferry their names. Anyone visiting Lourdes will discover three statues in the grotto – Our Lady, St Bernadette and St Margaret of Scotland, which it is assumed was left there by Scottish Pilgrims.

Fr Eustace is a Priest of the Missionaries of St Paul and had been the Priest in Residence for several years.

After Mass refreshments were served in the Parish Centre.
