Fr Brendan Seery’s Induction Mass at Our Lady Help of Christians was held on Monday 11th July 2022.

Msgr Kevin McGinnell as Dean of the St Albans Deanery presided.

Proceedings commenced with the presentation of the Parish Priest Elect with a letter of appointment from Bishop David being read to the Dean and those present. This was followed by the Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity. Parish Staff and a representative of the Parish Finance committee were then presented.

Msgr Kevin and Fr Brendan then visited the Altar, Baptismal Font and Confessionals.

Msgr Kevin then gave a homily on “Our Lady Help of Christians” and on the history of the church. The title was first used in the fourth century, but many people associate Our Lady Help of Christians with the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 when the vastly outnumbered Christian fleet inflicted a major defeat on the Ottoman Empire following the Christian faithful praying the Rosary on the instigation of Pope Pius V.

Fr Brendan is from Luton, and ordained in 2016. Based initially at the Cathedral of our Lady Immaculate in Northampton, then with the St Barnabas Cluster in Milton Keynes before joining Our Lady’s.

After Mass refreshments were served in the Parish Hall.
